Wings Middle School Ice Hockey Team

The Garden City Wings Middle School Ice Hockey team compiled a 1 - 2 record during the first month of the '07 - '08 winter season.

The Wings started the season with a 5 - 2 win over the Massapequa Chiefs. The potent forward line of Conor Gibbons, Jack Worstell and Thomas White accounted for four of the goals, with wing, Ryan Costigan, adding the fifth. Goalies Zachary Bostrom and Adam Hartog each allowed only one goal.

The next game saw the Wings pitted against the Wantagh-Seaford Baymen. The Wings started the scoring with a goal by center Chris Arena on an assist from defense Liam FitzGerald. The defensive duo of Jack Worstell and Liam FitzGeral played "iron man" for the entire game and held the Baymen to just three goals. With less than two minutes remaining in the game the Wings pulled goalie Zachary Bostrom. Less than one minute later forward Matt Greco deflected a shot by line mate John White over the Baymen netminder's shoulder. After the ensuing center ice face off the Wings again pulled their goalie and again mounted a furious at-tack. However, time ran out with the score still 3 - 2.

On October 27, 2007 the Wings faced another south shore rival, the Oceanside Sailors. The Wings used just three defense during the game: Robert Tomao, Brooke Van Valkenburg and Liam Fitz-Gerald. A back and forth battle saw center, Chris Arena, score twice and defense, Liam FitzGerald, add a third goal as the Wings fell short 6 - 3.

The Wings Middle School team includes three goalies: Zachary Bostrom, Adam Hartog and Cody Mackston; four defense: Robert Tomao, Brooke VanValkenburg, Mark Brady and Liam FitzGerald; and nine forwards: Chris Arena, Conor Gibbons, Jack Worstell, Matt Greco, Ryan Costigan, Conor Gallagher, John White, Tim Michel and Joseph Giarraputo.

The Wings Ice Hockey Club encourages all students to attend their games on Saturdays at the Iceworks rink in Syos-set.
