Wings Middle School Hockey Win Two Straight

The Garden City Wings Middle School team had two strong wins going into December. On November 18th the Wings defeated Cold Spring Harbor Blue 7-2 and had another strong win on December 3rd defeating Island Trees 12-4. These two wins took the Wings to 4 wins and 3 losses in early December.

The Wings defeated Cold Spring Harbor Blue (CSHB) 7-2 playing with a full team for the first time in several weeks. The Wings out shot CSHB 43 to 10. Scoring for the offensive line were Billy Barbaro, Albert Markopoulos (2), Dan Marino, and Steve Garger (2), with the assists and support from Spiros Markopolous, Alexix DeMolina, Anthony Adipietro, Ryan Williams and Francesca Giammona.

Defensively, Tim Moynihan, Nolan McKeown, Tom White & Patrick Donahue maintained a stellar defensive keeping the game in the offensive zone. Aggressive defensive teamwork resulted in Tom White scoring from the blue line. James Ross was the Wings Goalie with 41 saves.

The Wings took a confident 12- 4 victory over Island Trees/Plainedge on December 3rd at Iceworks Arena. The Wings out shot Island Trees 38 - 15.

The offensive lines dominated the face-offs resulting in Spiros Markopolous scoring 4 goals, Steve Garger with 4 goals, Albert Markopolous with 2 goals, Francesca Giammona with one goal and defenseman Nolan McKeown with one goal. Assists from Anthony Adipietro, Dan Marino, Tom White & Tim Moynihan kept the pressure on Island Trees all three periods.

Head Coach Richard Peck, Assistant Coaches Joe Brown, & Jim Norell were very pleased with theses wins. Coach Peck stated, "The progress of the team is impressive, especially since several of the players were returning from injuries." The increased ice time has been paying off with the team moving steadily up the leagues' rankings. Coach Peck stated " The Wings have taken a significant step forward this season. They are showing that they are a team not to be taken lightly." .The Wings are in 7th place out of 16 teams in the Middle School league.

The Wings practice and play the majority of their games at the Iceworks Arena in Syosset. For more information concerning their schedule or joining the Wings go to The Wings have an open enrollment program and will be looking for additional players for the 2006 spring season.
